BIO
Nací en Mar del Plata en 1976. La Fotografía en mi vida comenzó como un juego desde que tengo memoria, y a interesarme seriamente mientras vivía en Londres durante mi adolescencia, cuando mi papá me regaló mi primera cámara de fotos. Desde entonces empecé a investigar y estudiar diversas técnicas, tales como: fotografía estenopeica (cámara oscura), laboratorio blanco y negro, fine print, formato medio, procesos antiguos de fotografía, combinando además técnicas experimentales utilizando tintas específicas y otros pigmentos sobre diferentes soportes, remitiéndome en los comienzos a los fotógrafos pictorialistas de fines del siglo XIX, convirtiendo de esta manera cada fotografía como obra única e irrepetible… luego vino la fotografía digital, con la que actualmente convivo.
Al descubrir con el tiempo que con la fotografía sola (como mero espejo de lo real) no me alcanzaba, comencé a estudiar Historia del Arte, recorrido que se me hizo más sencillo por estar al lado de un gran artista plástico (y mejor persona aún), que también le aportó muchísima riqueza a mi conocimiento sobre Estética, Composición y Color.
Realicé más tarde la carrera completa en la Escuela de Fotografía Creativa Andy Goldstein, obteniendo promedio 10 (diez) con mi tesis "Las Tres Edades de la Mujer Sacra", proyecto con el cual me seleccionaron para representar a la Argentina en el Festival de Fotografía de Francia "Promenades Photographiques 2012". Realicé el Posgrado en Artes Visuales en la Universidad Nacional de las Artes (UNA), sobre Especialización en Medios y Tecnologías para la Producción Pictórica (tesis en desarrollo). Mi obra fue representada por importantes galerías nacionales y alrededor del mundo, en exposiciones individuales y colectivas como: Francia, EEUU, Chile, Panamá. Docente en la Carrera de Fotografía, titular de cátedras como: Iluminación Natural, Iluminación Profesional, Fotografía de Moda y Publicitaria. Actualmente docente en diferentes escuelas y espacios de arte, capacitando a colegas y a otros artistas de diferentes disciplinas sobre Fotografía Artística (Fine Art Photography). Mi casa-taller-estudio se encuentra en Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Después de hacer fotografías durante más de 20 años y seguir estudiando por un período prolongado en distintos lugares, me interesa principalmente crear todo desde cero. Elijo los "personajes" de mis relatos y realizo o consigo el vestuario según el concepto y las ideas que tengo preconcebidas, montando la escena en donde sea necesario, en estudio o en exteriores. A veces son imágenes que nacen en un primer momento desde el inconsciente, y otras veces nacen desde una idea más concreta y racional, tomando notas, como quien vive con el espíritu alerta, intentando robarle a la fotografia ese “eterno presente”, mostrando a los personajes como sombras de posibles destinos...

Maria Gracia Geraci was born in Mar del Plata, Argentina, in 1976.
Photography entered my life as a game from as early as I can remember, but it became a serious interest during my teenage years while living in London, when my father gave me my first camera. From that moment on, I began researching and studying a wide range of photographic techniques, including pinhole photography (camera obscura), black-and-white darkroom processes, fine printing, medium format photography, and historical photographic methods. At the same time, I experimented with specialised inks and pigments applied to different surfaces, drawing inspiration from the Pictorialist photographers of the late nineteenth century and transforming each photograph into a unique and unrepeatable work of art. Later came digital photography, a medium with which I continue to work today.
Over time, I realised that photography alone—as a mere reflection of reality—was not enough for me. This led me to study Art History, a journey made all the richer by being alongside a remarkable visual artist (and an even better human being), whose influence greatly expanded my understanding of aesthetics, composition, and colour.
I later completed the full Professional Photography programme at the Andy Goldstein School of Creative Photography, graduating with the highest distinction and a perfect academic average of 10/10. My thesis project, The Three Ages of the Sacred Woman, was selected to represent Argentina at the Promenades Photographiques Festival in France in 2012.
I subsequently undertook postgraduate studies in Visual Arts at the National University of the Arts (UNA), specialising in Media and Technologies for Pictorial Production, where I am currently developing my thesis.
My work has been represented by leading galleries in Argentina and internationally, and has been exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions in countries including France, the United States, Chile, and Panama.
As an educator, I have taught within Professional Photography programmes, leading courses in Natural Lighting, Professional Lighting, Fashion Photography, and Advertising Photography. I currently teach at various art schools and creative institutions, training fellow photographers and artists from diverse disciplines in Fine Art Photography.
My home, workshop, and studio are located in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
After more than twenty years of making photographs, combined with extensive study and research across different institutions and environments, my primary interest lies in creating every element of an image from the ground up. I select the characters who inhabit my visual narratives and either create or source their costumes according to preconceived concepts and ideas. I construct the scenes wherever necessary, whether in the studio or on location.
Sometimes my images emerge instinctively from the unconscious; at other times they arise from more concrete and rational ideas, developed through notes and observations. I work with the alertness of someone constantly attentive to the world, attempting to capture from photography that elusive “eternal present”, while portraying my subjects as shadows of possible destinies.
